Oftentimes, “business” comes with the negative connotations of being cut-throat, competitive, and manipulative. MOVE exemplifies how that does not have to be true! Fun Fact: I love to thrift.
I joined MOVE this semester because I wanted to be a part of a community of compassionate and motivated students. Last semester, I was completely swamped with schoolwork and selfishly pushed myself to omit many things for what essentially is a letter on a piece of paper. Over winter break, I reflected and spent many dull moments trying to find what was missing in my student life that made it feel so empty until I realized that outside of academia, I hardly spent any time doing what I had done nearly all of my high school life: volunteering.

Fun Fact: I play tenor saxophone in the Trojan Marching Band!
I joined MOVE because it proved to be one of the most genuine and welcoming communities on campus. Coming into business school, it was very easy to get lost in the ABC’s factory of Marshall. MOVE was very refreshing in that it introduced ideas of social enterprises, sustainability, and other aspects of business that weren’t talked about as much in class but had great impact on our communities. I really appreciated how it took the ideas of accounting, banking, and consulting that Marshall praised, and showed through guest speakers, community service, and innovative initiatives how it could be combined with making a difference in the world so that one could live a more meaningful life.
